Salesforce licences on one multi-cloud org, run in the end by a team of two. Brought back three times.

Solutions architect, then team lead2017 to 2021

Five people's work kept running with two, and before leaving I hired and trained my own replacements so it ran without me.

The situation

The in-house Salesforce team needed more firepower to rebuild the CRM around the sales motion, just as Salesforce was pushing everyone to Lightning. The org was slow, with little real automation, and the technical team worked mostly in French while the business ran in English. Then the company was acquired, and over two years the team lost most of its people.

What I built

  • Lightning rollout to 400 users, then the whole company
  • 20M+ records cleaned of duplicates, with ongoing automatic removal
  • Files moved out of Salesforce storage, which was cut in half
  • Support web form so staff without a licence could still raise requests
  • Contract lifecycle redesigned and commission software connected
  • Integration pattern documented for every connected system
  • DocuSign integrated, Eloqua re-integrated properly, and account-based marketing tools (ZoomInfo, Demandbase, 6sense) connected on top

Stack

Salesforce Unlimited · Lightning · LWC · ETL · DocuSign · Eloqua · ZoomInfo · Demandbase · 6sense

Results

  • Licences saved in the hundreds, through the support form.
  • About 98% of users on Lightning.
  • Duplicates close to zero, saving the sales operations lead about 20 hours a month.
  • Salesforce storage cut in half, with a lower storage bill.
  • Code coverage from about 70% to about 90%.
  • Still running after I left in 2021, with the team I hired. The group then asked me to architect the merge of its 28 Salesforce orgs.
